Birds of a Feather

In contrast to the bold, Stephen Sprouse graffiti prints, one of big hits on the Louis Vuitton S/S catwalk this year were these feathered creations. Part Big Bird and part burlesque queen, I could picture these dresses being worn outside a murky 1920's club in Chicago, with skinny, killer heels, femme fatal red lipstick, black net over white, powdered faces, and a cigarette smouldering at the end of an elegant cigarette holder. Model of the moment, Lara Stone wore a camel coloured version of the dress on the Louis Vuitton catwalk, this decadent cocktail dress providing an elegantly uptown addition to an otherwise tribal, 'safari-city' collection.

Off the catwalk, the new face of Louis Vuitton, Madonna wore a green version of the dress to a Gucci UNICEF party back in November. Though celebrity magazines raised their eyebrows, I loved the way Madonna wore this dress, though I would have styled it without chunky accessories, the collection of heavy bangles did give the dress of a tribal feel, making this statement dress less RnB diva, and more refined fashionista. But for me, I would have worn this without the fishnet tights, nothing personal Madonna, I just hate fishnet tights. What do you think, if you were Madonna would you have flocked to this look, or flown away from it?

Tomorrow I'm visiting an open day at Sussex University, I'm really excited because I've already got an offer from Sussex to study English, so all I need now is my three A's *shudders*...! A self contained sprawling campus situated in the postcard-perfect Sussex Downs, but only a ten minute bus ride from the party city of Brighton, this university is in my top three choices. Sussex alumni include writer of one of my favourite books of all time, Atonement, Ian McEwan, and no less than current editor of in Chief of Vogue, Alexandra Shulman! Basically, very, very exciting. I've got to be at the campus for 9.30, so that's means getting up at ridiculous o'clock to catch the train to Waterloo, and change to Brighton, then change to Falmer; which equals a very early start - on a weekend ... where are my D&G pyjama suits ...?

Today's 'Your Blog is Fabulous' award goes to Kate Moss Style, I only started reading this blog last week but since then I have fallen in love with it, and can't stop reading the back posts! I love Kate Moss, she has to be the ultimate 21st century style icon, and this blog is a fitting homage to her general amazingness. We love you Kate, and we love you Kate Moss Style.

I think Madonna can wear a lot. Even this, even though I'm also not a fan of fishnet tights.

I love the green on Madonna! x

I have this thing for Italian decorated kitchens, thus the dish cloth of Olive Oil and such. Great minds do think alike. ;]

Thanks for the wonderful comment, sweetie. xxxx

I just don't know if I can get down with this Madonna LV thing. But whatever. Also, Peaches lives in Williamsburg Brooklyn althought I don't really know very well what she looks like or whether I would recognize her. Someone said she lives a couple blocks from me. I had a Fiona Apple spotting the other day...it was cool

Craave feathers! Madonna does seem to wear fishnets with, well, everything, but I love that dress on her. Just could've been better. x

I loved the Louis Vuitton runway. All of the outfits reminded me of the 80's which was a fabulous era for fashion.
I love that Madonna wore that dress but I would have accessorized more simply. like wearing a pair of classic black stilettos, no fish-nets, and less bangles.

Thank you for the comment on my blog! I agree Indian shops are the best for scarves. I probably own 30 different scarves, they are the perfect accessory for almost every outfit!

Madonna can wear everything!
I like feathers, even they're not practical.

So exciting about Sussex- congrats!

Love the feathers, but . . . not on Madonna (perhaps they are best confined to the runway?).

Those feathers are insane! They must have so much movement in person.

i love the marabu effect, makes you look effortlessly elegant every step you take. agree on the fishnets, kinda irrelevant to otherwise romantic and precious feathers.

Congrats on the offer from Sussex, hope open day is fun!

I kind of like the feather dress... until it leaves the runway. I don't know why but I just don't think Madonna can pull it off. Maybe it's the fishnets like you said. Hope your day at Sussex went well! :)

i can't decide on whether i like the lv looks. i think they might be alluringly ugly. i agree madonna should have lost the fishnets. it just tramped up the outfit.

campus uni's are the best! i go to Bath University & in my first year when i lived on campus it took 3 mins from my room to lectures, very good for late nights (unable to get up early in the morning)! ;)

and no, the bags just some sort of replica Marc Jacobs =/

Good luck, hope you enjoy the open day! That LV top was in last week's Grazia and it looked so much better than it did on Madonna, I think she got it wrong
